I'm afraid I haven't heard of an app with that feature, but it's a fabulous idea!

I agree, it would be great to have that feature in these apps. For that, I think we have to look to content management apps like Ziplist and Springpad where you can save recipes from the web (or add your own) and access them via iPod/iPad.

None of the recipe/cooking apps I've seen appear to have the ability to add recipes to them...Am I incorrect in this?...I would really like to be able to add my favorite recipes to whatever app I decide to use...the shopping list feature isn't something I really need or want...so I wouldn't mind the trade-off...

Also, if you're interested by Lebanese cuisine, check out the app called "100 Lebanese Recipes". Easy to use and high quality pics ;-) You can browse the recipes by category, name and picture, search by name, description & ingredients, mark and retrieve your favorite dishes, calculate and convert different liquid or dry units, and browse a wide glossary of cooking terms... http://tinyurl.com/100-lebanese-recipes

[...] One of the many things I love about my iPad is that I can look up recipes online while cooking or in one of the many cookbook applications. The small size keeps it out of the way of food prep and the ipod makes being in the kitchen more enjoyable. My favorite cooking apps include the Betty Crocker cookbook which is full of tons of fun recipes, has an easy search and great pictures, Allrecipes.com application (same as the website but an easier format to work with) and the substitutions app which is awesome for when you forget something at the store and need a quick, in-house replacement. For more awesome cooking apps check out cooking on the side.
I hope, if you get the chance, you'll take a look at this amazing new app called Sweet'N'Spicy. There currently no other app like this on the market. It provides over 3000 Indian recipes - vegetarian, vegan and non-vegetarian, tips on preparing specific ingredients, and a calorie-counter for the health conscious. http://bit.ly/sweetnspicy

Kathy,

Another shopping list app to check out is ZipList (http://www.ziplist.com/iphone). It’s free and automatically categorizes items you add, lets you share lists with family and syncs your list on the web. It has a barcode scanner too. I did a review post of this app fairly recently as part of a series on money-saving iPhone apps: http://couponcravings.com/2010/06/money-saving-iphone-app-14-ziplist.html.

This is a great and well thought out post. Thanks for taking the time to review these apps and share your experience. I found this by Googling "Best Cooking Apps" and wasn't disappointed.
